In November 2018, a new Tallinn prison opened its new facilities near Tallinn, Estonia. In total there are 14 buildings on 26 hectares with 70,000 square meters of gross space.

Hansab installed 5 NUCTECH X-ray scanning devices in Tallinn Prison to detect the materials that are prohibited to be brought into the prison. The x-ray is mainly used for two purposes. First, the prisoners of so-called open prison are checked every time they enter the facilities after being out of prison every day. Also, the visitors’ bags and other belongings are being checked while entering.

X-ray equipment makes the work of prison staff much easier, as previously all items had to be checked manually, as well as identify visually various forbidden objects. The x-ray can automatically detect different forbidden items – weapons, explosives, and liquids. Hansab’s partner NUCTECH is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of X-ray equipment, which is used by many border crossing points, airports, ports and public authorities around the world.
