Easier Coffee Menu Updates
As part of Narvesen’s store modernization, some locations are introducing separate Caffeine self-service coffee areas, where customers can choose a drink and have it prepared immediately by a coffee machine. Information about available drinks and their prices is displayed on large-format electronic shelf labels.
By replacing traditional printed or handwritten menus with e-paper displays, menu content can be updated faster and more easily. For example, when the drink selection, prices, or menu layout changes, updates can be made quickly and remotely.
Less Manual Work, More Focus on Customers
All information displayed on electronic shelf labels and menu screens is managed centrally. This helps ensure that customers across the Narvesen network always see up-to-date prices and menu information.
With the ESL solution, employees no longer need to check and manually replace paper price tags or menu items in each store. This reduces the risk of errors and allows staff to spend more time maintaining the store and serving customers.
E-Paper: Digital Technology with a Printed Look
The large-format coffee menu displays are based on electronic paper technology, also known as e-paper. Unlike traditional LCD screens, they do not emit bright light, giving them a print-like appearance.
This allows the displays to blend naturally into the store interior while keeping the information clear and easy to read under different lighting conditions.
A Solution That Can Grow with the Network
The centrally managed ESL system makes it easy to update information on both small electronic shelf labels and large coffee menu displays. As the network expands, there is no need to create a separate information management process for each new store. All devices can be connected to the same digital infrastructure.
This project is a great example of how ESL technology can be used for much more than displaying prices on store shelves. It can also be adapted to show other useful customer information in different areas of a store – just as in this project, from product shelves to Caffeine coffee menus.
